About this event

To celebrate International Literacy Day, we are organising a meet-and-greet event with an author and an illustrator at Vuosaari House’s Vuosali Hall on Tuesday 8 September 2026 at 10.00. This morning, you get to meet the author Silja Sillanpää and illustrator Pasi Pitkänen . They talk about the origins of Ouroboros the book series and their collaboration. Some live drawing is also on the menu! The Schoolchildren’s Morning event is part of the programme accompanying the exhibition Kohti tuntematonta (‘Towards the Unknown’). Pasi Pitkänen’s atmospheric illustrations open windows to views outside of the mundane. The images feature magical snakes, strange creatures and runic symbols. They contain light and shadow, suspense, menace and even danger. Register your group for the Schoolchildren’s Morning at kultus.hel.fi . The exhibition and event for children and young people is a compilation of Pasi Pitkänen's extensive illustrations. The exhibition includes a selection of images from book series in which Pitkänen is an equal creator alongside the authors: Pate (Timo Parvela), Kepler62 (Timo Parvela ja Bjørn Sortland), Paavali Pattinen (Hannele Lampela) and Ouroboros (Silja Sillanpää). Pasi Pitkänen is a talented and versatile illustrator, writer and graphic designer whose works have also achieved international success. Pitkänen graduated as a graphic designer from Aalto University and has worked as an illustrator, character designer and graphic designer at Rovio Entertainment. He now works as a freelance illustrator and lives in Japan for part of the year. The exhibition and the event have been produced by Salla Fornaro from Vuosaari House’s cultural services and Emilia Kämäräinen from Vuosaari Library in collaboration with Pasi Pitkänen.
