About this place

Mykkälänmäki loop is a hiking trail that runs through varied forest terrain in the Mykkälänmäki area, near Paljakanvuori. The trail's terrain is mostly easy-to-traverse pine forest on bedrock, offering hikers one of the finest hiking areas in the Kiuruvesi region. Along the route, you will experience the different stages of forest life from regeneration to old-growth forest. Along the trail, on top of the magnificent Mykkälänmäki cliff, you can enjoy a packed lunch at a 'kotalaavu' (lean-to with a fire pit) and admire the views opening towards Paljakanvuori and Putouksenmäki. The Mykkälänmäki loop is a circular route and its length is 3.2 km. From the route, you can reach the summit of Paljakanvuori via a 1.2 km connecting path. Along the connecting path, you will experience the atmosphere of an old protected spruce forest. The Kiuruveden Latu Ry is responsible for the maintenance of the route. The Mykkälänmäki 'kotalaavu' is privately owned but freely available to hikers. The 'kotalaavu' does not have firewood service, so please bring your own firewood. The Mykkälänmäki loop is marked in the terrain with green paint. You can access the route either from the summit of Paljakanvuori via the connecting path or by driving all the way to the end of the forest road Raskeentie. Raskeentie turns off from Pielavedentie 891, from there the drive to the destination is about 3.8 km.
