Karjakaivo / Ulkoilumaja

The outdoor cabin has been leased to Helsingin seudun Lapinkävijät ry. The City of Helsinki acquired the basic part of the Karjakaivo outdoor recreation area in 1963. The area covers more than 700 ha. Of this area, 221 ha have been transferred to Metsähallitus. The Karjakaivo area extends from Hynkänlampi in the south to Ruuhijärvi in the north. Karjakaivo and Pirttimäki form an integral whole. This wilderness area, shaped by the Ice Age, is characterised by large differences in altitude. The peaceful landscape is dominated by steep rocky slopes and erratic boulders, many lakes and ponds with beautiful shores, and lush bogs and wetlands.
