Kuhankuonon retkeilyreitistö - Savojärven kierros
Savojärventie 103, 21270 Nousiainen
About this place
Part of the Kuhankuono hiking trail network. The Savojärvi loop is by far the most popular sub-route in the entire hiking trail network. It is located almost entirely within Kurjenrahka National Park and, as its name suggests, circles Savojärvi, sometimes following the shoreline closely, sometimes winding further away. The variety of bog types on this six-kilometre route is astonishing, and the bog sections are entirely duckboarded. Along the way, there are also ice-age formed gravel ridges, and islands populated by large, dark spruces in the middle of the bog. Rest stops suitable for grilling sausages are located at Kurjenpesä, which belongs to the national park, and Rantapiha on the other side of Savojärvi. Both places are also suitable starting points for the route. In summer, the Kurjenportti stop on Säkyläntie can also be reached by Föli bus. Both Rantapiha and Kurjenpesä have drinking water points and tenting possibilities. Rantapiha also has a kiosk and sauna facilities on summer weekends. From the Kurjenpesä car park, the Karpalopolku trail, which has been renovated into a demanding accessible path, starts; its length is 1.7 kilometres. It is also suitable for prams and wheelchairs, for the latter an assistant is recommended due to a few ascents. Kurjenpesä has an accessible toilet and cooking shelter. Both starting points are ploughed in winter, and in snowy winters, an eight-kilometre ski trail is made on the Kurjenrahka bog by snowmobile. The Savojärvi loop has hardly any elevation changes, and it is suitable for walking in running shoes almost throughout the frost-free season. Due to the large number of walkers, the path is often passable even in snowy conditions, although it is not formally ploughed. The route can easily be completed in two hours, but those who admire the scenery can easily spend three hours. The route passes through the areas of Pöytyä, Nousiainen, Mynämäki, Rusko and Turku.
