Sänkimäen näköalatorni

Sänkimäki observation tower is located in Nilsiä along Sänkimäentie, next to the old Sänkimäki elementary school. There are no signs to the tower, but the tower is visible from Sänkimäentie, making it easy to find. The parking lot is right at the base of the tower. There is no WC or campfire site at the location, but there is a possibility to have a picnic at a table. The tower is in good condition and offers beautiful rural landscapes. Sänkimäki, together with Pohjois-Sänkimäki, is considered a nationally valuable landscape area. From the observation tower, you can see Tahko and Kinahmi with their fell landscapes, Kinahmi's quartz quarries, Yara's operations, and for example, the Kasurila ski slopes. On a clear day, with sharp eyes, you can even see Puijo Tower in Kuopio.
