About this place

Iivarinsalo is located in the central Kallavesi, between the deep water channel and the channel leading to Vehmersalmi. The island is part of Kuopio's National Urban Park. Natural sandy beaches, ideal for swimming and sunbathing, circle the northeastern cape of Iivarinsalo. The island is one of the most popular boating destinations in the Kallavesi archipelago and is suitable for overnight stays and temporary visits. To the north of the island are protected small islands; Piippuluodot and Korppiluodot, where landing is forbidden during bird nesting season from 1 May to 31 July, during which time movement near them should also be avoided. There is a cooking shelter in the north-west corner of the island. Firewood service is available at the site. In the southern part of the island are the bases of Kuopio Yacht Club and Lake Rescuers. Strong easterly and north-easterly winds may make landing difficult.
