About this place
Isokari, also known as Friisinsaari, is located on the southwest shore of Ykspihlajanlahti bay. The island has an area of 5.4 hectares. It is a historically significant site and a popular outdoor and recreational area. Isokari is mainly a deciduous area. On the northwest shore, there is a large erratic boulder transported to the site by ice during the last ice age. The island's nature is dominated by the sea and lush, grove-like forests. On the north shore, there are rocky seaside meadows. From the island and the birdwatching tower, you can observe the birdlife of Ykspihlajanlahti bay year-round. The path is suitable for hiking, picnicking, and birdwatching. Along the route, you can explore the area's nature and the marks left by the last ice age, as well as Kokkola's maritime cultural history.
