Huusankosken kota
Soukkalantie 445, 63355 Alavus
About this place
The villagers have, through voluntary work, built a kota (traditional hut), a woodshed, a sturdy log table and benches, an outdoor campfire site, and an outhouse at the site of the former mill. The rapidly flowing Vehkaoja or Vehkaluoma, which was full of water during this rainy July, adds a pleasant touch to the hiking spot. The gurgling of the small rapids was pleasant to listen to at the campfire site. The kota is located on the Seinäjärvi – Sulkavankylä outdoor recreation trail, and in winter, the frequently used ski trail passes through the kota if snow conditions allow. Huusankoski kota is located along Vehkaoja in Soukanperä, Seinäjärvi. The easiest way to find the kota is to turn from main road 66 onto Sulkavankyläntie, drive about 4.4 kilometres, then turn right onto Soukkalantie, which you follow for 4.3 kilometres. Drive along the forest road turning right for about 300 metres, and from the top of a small hill, a stony path branches off to the left, with a sign to the Kota at its beginning. Follow this path for about 400 metres, and you will reach Huusankoski kota. The kota is one of the destinations in “Along and Across Alavus” for 2015 and has become more familiar to other Alavus residents as a result.
