About this place
The Nakolinna trail starts along the cycle path turning off Meriniitynkatu (starting point coordinates are N 60° 23.297′ and E 23° 5.895′). The trail branches off the cycle path, circling Varesvuori clockwise and returning to the starting point. You can drive up the hill along the cycle path and leave your car in the small parking area in the Nakolinna yard. The parking area coordinates are N 60° 23.406′ and E 23° 6.009′ At the beginning of the cycle path starting from Meriniitynkatu, there is a signpost to Nakolinna. At the starting point of the trail, there is an information board showing the trail's route. The route is marked in the terrain with mute swan symbols, which also include the numbers of attractions along the nature trail. There is also a guide to the trail that introduces the cultural and historical significance of Nakolinna, e.g., as the discovery site of the so-called Halikko treasure. The trail follows a network of paths and cycle paths clockwise around Varesvuori, showcasing the diverse nature of the Nakolinna rock area through various attractions. The length of the trail is approximately 2 kilometres, and it takes about an hour to complete. The trail is easy to navigate and suitable for all ages but is not suitable for people with mobility impairments as there are some roots and stones on the trail. Various natural attractions are marked along the trail, such as a larch forest and a tall herb meadow. Signs of human activity are visible on the trail, e.g., in the vegetation. The use of the site is limited to the snow-free season, as there is no winter maintenance. The distance from the long-distance bus stops along main road 110 to the nature trail is approximately 200 metres. Basic footwear is suitable for the nature trail. The route can be completed by walking or mountain biking. Take any rubbish with you back home. Litter left in nature is life-threatening to the birds and other animals in the area. Lighting fires is strictly forbidden!
