About this place

Ellun polku (Ellu's Path) is a path named by Perniön Pirteät ry, approximately 5.7 kilometres long. The starting point and information board for Ellun polku are located in the yard of Perniö sports hall, next to the Melassuo information board. The route starts near the outdoor fitness equipment. The route is marked at intersections with wooden signposts, and there are also paint markings on trees. The route follows paths, also crossing roads. Halfway along the route is a circular route called “Nipan nykäys”, after which the same path returns to the starting point. Perniön Pirteät ry's description of the route: The path leads to Pirteiden piilopirtti (Pirteät's hidden cabin), located in the Asteljoki valley (purple circle on the map). ELLU was Elias Pohtila, a boy from Lapland who went to school in Perniö in the 1950s, and later became the Director-General of Metla. Part of the path is named Nipan Nykäys, after the local perpetually active person, Niilo Tuominen. Perniön Pirteät ry is responsible for the maintenance of the path.
