Kuhankuonon retkeilyreitistö - Pirunkirkon patikka
Lietsantie 4, 21900 Pöytyä
About this place
Part of the Kuhankuono hiking trail network. Along this trail, the devil long ago deemed a magnificent, rocky cliff as his church. This aptly describes the nature of this trail. Steep cliffs follow one after another, demanding good physical condition, some experience, and sturdy shoes from hikers. Pirunkirkko's hike cannot be recommended as a first hiking destination for those who are unsure on their feet. At the second rest stop on the route, Luolakallio, there is, as its name suggests, a magnificent cave-like pocket under a rock overhang, where one can even spend the night, provided one is not prone to claustrophobia. Luolakallio also has a barbecue shelter and a toilet. The other rest stop on the route is Soikeroinen lean-to, which also has a grill, a toilet, and a wood shelter. For those arriving by car, the natural starting point is the Soikeroinen car park. The route is marked with orange ribbons and is not maintained in winter. Immediately after leaving Soikeroinen, hikers have the option to take a separate, approximately 400-meter-long climber's loop. This short route ascends a high cliff and requires strong leg muscles. Pirunkirkko's hike is an out-and-back route, approximately 8 km long in one direction. Due to the elevation differences of the route, it is advisable to allow at least four hours for the round trip, or three hours if you only go as far as the Luolakallio rest stop and turn back. The route runs in the Pöytyä area.
