About this place
Piilolampi forest estate is located in Hyvinkää, in the heart of the extensive Kytäjä-Usmi forest area. The area is directly connected to state-managed conservation forests, which are also used for recreation. The association's area borders the shore of Piilolampi for approx. 200 metres in the south. The pond is somewhat eutrophic but has relatively clean and deep water (maximum depth approx. 9 m). A lakeside trail runs around Piilolampi. On the eastern shore of the pond is the area's only building, a former forestry workers' cabin, which is in private summer cottage use. The cabin's yard area and sauna shore must be bypassed along the outdoor recreation trail through the forest. So-called black granite was once quarried from the eastern shore of the northern part of Piilolampi. From Piilolampi, one can hike along trails eastward on Metsähallitus (Forestry Administration) land, for example, to Kaksoislammit. The Usmi area has several hiking bases with campfire sites. The trails are mostly signposted, but it may be good to acquire a hiking map from the city. A compass is another good companion in the vast forest area. The Kytäjä-Usmi forest area is also a very popular winter ski touring destination.
