About this place

Alavus Kirkkovuori outdoor recreation trail has over ten kilometres of illuminated trail, if the connecting trail to Tuurinkoski lean-to is included. Along the trail are Rastilaavu and Leijonakota, where you can stop to rest and eat packed lunches. The trail can be accessed from many different car parks, the most popular being the car park at the intersection of Alavudentie and Lampimäentie and the Kellokorpi car park when driving from Alavus centre along the “old road” towards Tuuri. During peak skiing times, the car parks may even be full! Duckboards have been laid in the wettest part of the trail. The steepest ascent of the trail climbs to Haaravuori. From the top of Korkiavuori, you can, in principle, continue all the way to Peränne in Ähtäri, where the ski trail has been open in good snow years. There is an illuminated trail all the way to Tuurinkoski lean-to. From the trail, about one kilometre from this intersection, a traditional ski trail branches off to the right towards Varolan maja (lodge). Keeping ski trails open naturally requires good snow conditions. The Leijonakota, built by volunteers, is located about 300 metres from the aforementioned intersection. Sausage grilling is possible both inside the kota (hut) and in the concrete ring between the kota and the wood shed. Ski trail maps and information boards can be found along the trail. The link below also provides an online ski trail map with distances. The terrain is pleasantly varied, and especially the downhill slope from Leijonakota towards Alavus is challenging in slippery conditions. There is also a geocache point along the trail; more detailed tips can be found, for example, on the http://www.geocache.fi website.
