About this place
Waste bin, info board, mooring rings, buoys, campfire site, woodshed, outdoor toilet. Area: 24+2 ha Acquisition year: 1996 Nautical chart series Z 623 Onas’s extensive archipelago is one of the most significant and distinctive complexes in the Porvoo archipelago. From Onas’s impressive southern granite cliffs, an unobstructed view of the Gulf of Finland opens up. The association owns the southeastern corner of Onas, in front of which a shipping lane passes. It is also possible to land a small boat on the south side of the island, but for now, the best landing spot, avoiding rocks, is near the rocky outcrop north of the headland. There are numerous boat launching ramps nearby on the mainland, e.g. in Kalkkiranta and Spjutsund in Sipoo. Immediately west of Onas is the City of Helsinki's Kaivokari recreational area with its harbour. From the City of Kerava's Nikuviken recreational area, the distance to Onas is approximately 11 km, and from the association's Stornäsudden, the northern tip of Emäsalo, the distance is about twenty kilometres. Another small but impressive rocky island, Rönnskär, which belongs to the association, is located about a kilometre east of Onas and is dominated by an old navigation beacon. On the western shore of Onas, outside the association's area, there is a granite boulder called Napoleon's stone, ground round on three sides. According to legend, this block was intended to be made into a sarcophagus for the French emperor Napoleon.
