About this place

Area: 40 ha Acquisition year: 1991 (leased) Nautical chart series Z 629 Addresses: Omsatuntie 77 (association's area), Tullandintie 115 (Vetokannas), Tullandintie 190 (Nedergård) The total area of recreational areas used jointly by the association, the City of Vantaa, Kirkkonummi, and Nurmijärvi municipalities is approximately 156 ha. Driving instructions: From the Helsinki - Hanko road (no. 51), after the signpost for Porkkalanniemi, there is a signpost for Porkkalanniemi recreational areas. Through a long-term agreement with the Ministry of Defence, the association has gained control of a previously restricted natural area in Porkkalanniemi, which connects to the adjacent recreational areas of Vantaa, Kirkkonummi, and Nurmijärvi. At the tip of the peninsula, there is a pilot station closed to the public, separated from the association's area by a fence. The area is best characterised by its rugged rocky shores and the panoramic view of the open sea from the high Telegrafberget. In the barren rocky coastal forest, there are 5 Bronze Age burial sites (stone cairns). The rocky shores are particularly dangerous due to their steepness, especially when slippery in autumn, which should be taken into account when moving in the area. The association's area is managed and monitored jointly with other municipalities owning recreational areas throughout the year. In autumn, Porkkalanniemi is a particularly popular spot for surf anglers. Among mammals, there is a very abundant population of elk in the area, whose droppings can be seen everywhere. In addition, there are deer, especially in the association's area, where they have also been fed. To ensure that these "natives" can continue to live as peacefully as possible in our common area, it is especially important that hikers' dogs are not allowed off-leash to chase the area's truly abundant wildlife.
