About this place
Iivarinsalo is located in central Kallavesi between the deep channel and the channel leading to Vehmersalmi. The island is part of Kuopio National Urban Park. Natural sandy beaches surround Iivarinsalo's northeastern headland, making them excellent for swimming and sunbathing. The island is one of Kallavesi archipelago's most popular boating destinations and is suitable for overnight stays and temporary visits. To the north of the island are protected small islands; Piippu- and Korppiluodot, where landing is prohibited during bird nesting season from 1.5. to 31.7., during which time movement near them should also be avoided. There is a cooking shelter at the northeastern corner of the island. Firewood supply is maintained at the site. In the southern part of the island are the bases of Kuopio Pursiseura and Järvipelastajat. Strong easterly and northeasterly winds can make landing difficult.
