About this place

The Koivumäki ancient trail starts opposite the parking area of Muurla Youth Centre (Viljo Hurmeentie 1) from the wooden stairs. From the stairs, the ancient trail ascends to the Bronze Age burial cairn on top of Koivumäki and then returns along the same route to the starting point. The ancient trail route is marked with wooden posts featuring a St. John's Arms symbol. Additionally, just before the burial cairn, there is an information board detailing the history of the cairn. The ancient trail is approximately 250 metres long (round trip) and takes about 10 minutes to complete. The ancient trail is a moderately challenging route and suitable for all ages, but not for people with mobility impairments, as the ascent to Koivumäki is quite steep. The site is accessible only during frost-free periods, as there is no winter maintenance. The nearest long-distance bus stops on Muurlantie are approximately 500 metres from the starting point of the ancient trail. Sturdy footwear is recommended for the ancient trail. The route can only be walked. Please take any rubbish with you back home. Rubbish left in nature is life-threatening to birds and other animals in the area. Lighting fires is strictly forbidden! In case of emergency, call 112 (address of parking area is Viljo Hurmeentie 1). State who you are, where you are (exact address and municipality) and what has happened. Ask for help from other people on the trail and stay on site until professional help arrives. Guide the helpers to the location. Call again if the situation changes. Also located near the ancient trail is the studio home of artist Viljo Hurme (address Muurlantie 309), which is open to the public on summer Sundays in July-August. For groups, also at other times by arrangement. https://www.muurlanseutu.com/
