Pirunkurun ponnistus

Climb the ruggedly beautiful Pirunkuru gorge. The scree field, rising in various shades of grey, is a breathtaking experience. The gorge makes hikers exert themselves, but the magnificence of the fells and the clean air filling the lungs richly reward those who climb Pirunkuru. The beginning of the trail is relaxed hiking in an open forest towards the Kesänkijärvi lean-to. When the path turns into the gorge, it's time to tackle the rocks. The steep ascent to Kesänkitunturi and the rough stones underfoot do not make it easy for hikers. Sometimes one has to wipe sweat from their brow, admire the grand gorge and the fell landscapes opening up behind them. The fell winds here are among the purest in the world. It is good to pause and admire the Pallastunturi peaks shimmering on the horizon. The untouched, lichen-covered scree field makes the fell appear green. Soon you will reach Tahkokuru hut, where you can refuel for the return journey. It's easy to smile after conquering Pirunkuru, as the journey back to the starting point is along an easily trodden path and gravel road.
