About this place

The approximately six-kilometre-long Maarian Stone Age Trail runs along the east side of the basin through diverse terrain. The Stone Age Trail is named after the Stone Age settlement sites found in the area. The trail leads both to the top of a cliff and into a dark spruce forest. Parts running close to the river are mainly spruce-dominated forest, but on top of the cliffs, the terrain is more barren. Interesting sites along the route include Rajakallio (Border Cliff) and Jättiläisen kivi (Giant's Stone) on the border of Lieto and Turku. At Rajakallio, you can stop to enjoy a snack at the table. The starting point of the trail is at the Karhunojantie car park, but you can also join the trail from the Myllyoja bridge, for example. The Stone Age Trail is marked in red paint. Part of the trail is shared with Paavon polku (Paavo's Trail), marked in blue, which circles closer to the Jäkärlä residential area.
